Spiders are arthropods -not insects, as they have eight legs and their body is divided into cephalothorax and abdomen. Spiders rarely bite humans while only two species are considered as dangerous - the black widow and the brown spider (Loxosceles reclusa). The bite of most species has a little to no effect on human, while the bite of a small number of other species has low medical significance. Many people have an innate fear of spiders. Spiders can be annoying to have around the house. They are attracted by warm, dark small spaces, like walls cracks, corners, air vents and in the eaves of your home. Most spiders are a nuisance primarily because of their webbing.

There are more than 35,000 spider species worldwide. Spiders come in a wide range of colors and sizes, but they are all recognizable by their 8 feet. Spiders are often beneficial because they feed on many insects, including pests.

Some of the most common house spiders you might see are:

  • Common house spider (Pholcidae family)- is the most common spider found indoors
  • Pholcus phalangioides spider- has long and slim legs. Her body vibrates rapidly in the tissue when disturbed
  • Lycosidae spider family (wolf)- large, 'hairy', often mistaken for tarantula. The opening of her legs can reach 7,5cm.
  • Clubionidae spider family- range from pale yellow to grey or green. Probably this spider type is responsible for bites occurred indoors.
